Terms of participation 38retinas 20/21




«38Retinas», is an annual traveling film festival, whose objective is to bring the best of short films and audiovisuals from any corner of the world, to the 38 municipalities of the region of El Bierzowho so wish.

The projections of the 3rd edition of the festival, in its different categories, will be held between May 4 and December 31, 2020.

The Association «My Retina me Engaña» is the organizing entity of this event that has, in addition to the participating municipalities, the Regional Council of Bierzo as the main collaborating entity.


OS1) Committed Looks

Short films of fiction, animation and documentaryfrom any country or nationality that include social thematic content, with a critical background and committed to the current social reality, can participate.  

Films that fit some of the following thematic contents will be selected: Childhood, adolescence, youth, elderly, family, poverty and social exclusion, disability, gender equality, sexist violence, LGTBI, education, bullying, work, economy, health , housing, politics, culture, human rights, development cooperation, solidarity, racism, ethnic minorities, immigration / emigration, interculturality and the environment.

OS2) Other Looks

Short films of fiction, animation and documentaryfrom any country or nationality can participate, with free thematic content. Comedy or black humor, the relationship with the rural world and the positive approach with which the stories presented will be valued.


– Films shot in any format and produced with afterJanuary 1, 2018.

– The maximum duration of the participating short films in the competitive official section may not exceed 30 minutes.

– That film whose original language is not Spanish must be subtitled in that language, with embedded subtitles or with a file in SubRip format (SRT).

– All the finalist films of the official section «Other Looks» will have to be suitable for all audiences.

– Not having been registered or projected in previous editions of the Festival

– All the finalist films of the latest edition of the “International Film Festival of Ponferrada”, also organized by our entity, may be invited to participate in the different sections of the festival, with the same conditions as the films registered.


The submission of works to participate in the official section must be done exclusively online through the platforms Festhome (www.festhome.com), Movibeta  (www.movibeta.comor Click For Festivals (www.clickforfestivals.com)

It will be mandatory to upload as attachments: the poster and 2 frames of the film, in addition to a copy of the ID and a photograph of the director. It is advisable to send a promotional trailer.

The movie admission deadline will end on March 31, 2020.


Each official section to contest will have a selection committee that will decide the finalist works of each category. In addition, there will be a special jury that will select, among all the films registered, those works that stand out for their “social and educational values”, which may be specifically screened in activities where cinema-forums are included on certain themes (International Days environment, sexual diversity, rural women, childhood, gender violence, disability, volunteering and human rights), organized in collaboration with the Social Action Centers or the Department of Culture of the participating localities.

The decisions of the selection committees and the special jury will be final. The organization will communicate the decision to those selected from April 17, 2020at the email address indicated in the corresponding section of the data or records of each film. The organization can change the section of the selected movie whenever it deems appropriate. The selected films will appear on the Festival website (www.38retinas.com)

All selected films will have to upload before April 30, 2020to Festhome  (www.festhome.com), Movibeta (www.movibeta.com)or Click For Festivals (www.clickforfestivals.coma Trailer for promotion and a Projection copy in HD file with codec H264 and minimum resolution of 1920 × 1080 -1080p- in .mov or .mp4 formats

If any of these platforms does not offer the possibility of uploading the required projection copy, it could be sent by any other online file sending system.

Copies of the films and trailers sent by the participants will remain the property of the organization, which will be integrated into the Festival’s visual archive. All selected films may be used for non-profit cultural projections in collaboration with the different entities participating in the festival.

The producers of all participating works authorize the use of the requested trailer or a fragment thereof (maximum 3 minutes) for its dissemination as an informative and promotional material in all the media used by the Festival (Cinemas, public screenings, televisions, Internet, etc.).

The projections of the official section to the contest «Committed Looks» will be held between May 4 and June 30, 2020, in the localities that have requested it to be viewed in indoor spaces.

The projections of the official section to contest «Other Looks» will be held between July 1 and August 31, 2020, in the localities that have requested it to be viewed in outdoor spaces, as long as weather conditions allow.

The screenings of the films selected for their “social and educational values” will be held between September 1 and December 31, 2020, in the locations that have requested it to be viewed in certain activities and in indoor spaces.

The projections will be made using the projection copy previously requested.


– Audience Award“38Retinas 2020”and € 300 for the best audiovisual work in the official section “Committed Looks”

– Audience Award «38Retinas 2020»and € 300 for the best audiovisual work of the official section «Other Looks».

– Special mentions of the jury “38Retinas 2020”to the best audiovisual works selected for their “social and educational values”.

All the «38Retinas» prizes of the official sections are awarded by the audience attending the screenings. The Special Mentions “social and educational values”

They will be granted by a special jury.

All the works that have won awards or mentions will be awarded a diploma and recognition laurels that prove their status as a prize at the Festival.

All finalists will be awarded recognition laurels that accredit their status as selected at the Festival.

The organization reserves the right to grant other prizes or mentions in consideration of the artistic and technical quality of the works presented.

At the end of all the projections of the official section, the list of awards 38Retinas 2020 will be communicated.

The economic prizes will be paid by bank deposit, in favor of the natural or legal person who owns the film, being subject to the withholdings determined by current law. In addition, the economic amounts may be modified depending on the agreements established with the sponsors, prior to the celebration of the Festival.


Participation in this Festival implies acceptance of these rules. The absence of any important data in the registration, as well as the material attached to it and the breach of the established deadlines, may suppose the non-participation in the Festival of the corresponding work. Any incident that arises during the celebration of it, will be resolved in the judgment of the organization.
